Baltimore County, MD is a suburban county located in the northern portion of the state of
Maryland.
Baltimore County is one of the original counties of the Maryland province. Its borders extend across the northern portion of the entire state. The name of the county was derived from the barony of the Proprietor of the Maryland colony, in County Longford, Ireland. As of 2000, the population is 754,292.
The
City of Baltimore and parts of
Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, and
Harford Counties were created from Baltimore County, MD's original boundaries by 1851.

Perry Hall was established in 1775; settled by German and Irish families following the Civil War and developed a thriving dairy and nursery industry. Today Perry Hall is a suburban community with more than 40,000 residents living on about 13 square miles of land, with most of its land already developed. It is located 10 miles northeast of Baltimore, in the Gunpowder River Valley framing the border between Baltimore and Harford County, has a rich history of commerce, religion and family life.
Baltimore County enjoys an extremely diverse economic base, ranging from heavy concentrations in traditional industries to a large presence across the gamut of high technology industries. Its location as a hub for three major East Coast Interstate systems, I-95, I-83, and I -70, make it an ideal locale for businesses engaged in the transport of products.
Towson is the county seat for Baltimore County. Sites of interest include the the Timonium Fairgrounds, where the Maryland State Fair and numerous other events happen; Hampton National Historic Site, home of the Ridgely family for more than 150 years; Ladew Topiary Gardens, several golf courses, the Timonium Race Course, and the Loch Raven Reservoir. Thoroughbred horse racing events occur at Pimlico Race Track, home of the Preakness - the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.
This county is a part of the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan Area.
